The role requires strong business judgment, deal experience, and excellent cross-functional and external partnering skills. You will represent Bayer in partner negotiations and present opportunities and recommendations to senior leadership and governance committees.

  • Lead Integrated Deal Teams (IDTs), partnering with Scientific Licensing colleagues (SLO) where appropriate;
  • Drive internal opportunity assessments — technical, clinical, commercial and financial — and synthesize findings for BU and executive decision-making;
  • Negotiate directly with partner counterparts and shape creative deal structures to solve complex commercial, scientific and legal requirements;
  • Present opportunity assessments and recommended approaches to leadership and senior governance committees to secure approvals for term sheet, diligence and contracting phases;
  • Manage selected alliances to deliver on deal value and ensure effective partner governance and outcomes;
  • Maintain and expand external networks across biotech, pharma, investors and ecosystem partners to proactively generate and evaluate opportunities;
  • Execute Bayer’s Open Innovation/ecosystem engagement strategy in the US and EU and collaborate closely with regional commercial teams to identify regional opportunities and alignment.

Required qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MS/MA/PhD or comparable) in Life Sciences, or degree in Business, Law, Finance, or related field;
  • Proven track record of leading and closing complex biopharma deals; strong negotiation and contracting experience (please include deal sheet with application);
  • Deep understanding of pharmaceutical R&D, Oncology drug development and competitive landscape;
  • Strong commercial acumen, including advising on valuation, deal structuring and business case development;
  • Excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills; able to distill complex information and influence at executive levels;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams in a matrix environment and to drive timely decisions and outcomes;
  • Ability to build trust and influence internal and external stakeholders across cultures and seniority levels;
  • Willingness to travel up to 40%.

Preferred qualifications

  • 15+ years of relevant industry experience;
  • At least 7 years in Business Development (or related finance/VC/banking/Equity Research experience).
